WinnicaLidla.pl – A New Version of the E-Commerce Platform on Adobe Commerce (Magento)
Introduction
Established in 1930, Lidl is an international chain of grocery discount stores and general merchandise shops. It is one of the largest retail chains in the world, operating in many countries across Europe, North America, and Asia. Lidl offers a wide range of grocery items and everyday household goods at attractive prices. The company also emphasizes sustainable development by promoting eco-friendly products and taking steps to reduce its negative impact on the environment.
Since 2017, Lidl has allowed customers to reserve certain products online and purchase them at a selected physical store.
The Challenge
In 2023, Lidl decided to migrate the system of its platform, winnicalidla.pl, to the new version of Magento to enhance the user shopping experience. The primary goal was to allow customers to reserve products without creating an account, thus simplifying and expediting the purchasing process.
The Solution
Exorigo-Upos S.A., the e-commerce technology provider for the previous version of the platform, also undertook the modernization project. The team of experts focused on migrating the website to the new version of Magento (Adobe Commerce), which offers a broader range of features to improve customer experiences. As part of this process, the migration of the product database and reservations between the existing and the new system was required to ensure continuous data access.
Under the supervision of Exorigo-Upos S.A., a detailed launch plan was developed, and multiple verifications and tests were performed before it went live. Solid technical preparation ensured the entire migration process was completed overnight without disrupting the platform’s operations—the main technical challenges involved managing queues on the new site version and ensuring proper infrastructure and deployment.
The Results
With the implemented updates, the winnicalidla.pl site introduced the option to reserve products without creating an account. After adding products to the cart, a customer can reserve as a “guest” and select a Lidl physical store where they want to purchase. This significantly simplifies and speeds up the shopping process, increasing the accessibility of this pickup option for customers who do not wish to create an account with the store.
Summary
Through its collaboration with Exorigo-Upos S.A., winnicalidla.pl gained a refreshed version of its e-commerce site, better meeting consumer expectations. The project delivered positive results by enabling more accessible product reservations without creating an account, allowing more potential customers to benefit from the platform and its functionality.
