Implementation of the P2PE Standard for Lidl

Lidl is an international discount grocery chain offering various products, including food, household items, clothing, electronics, and seasonal items. The company, striving to ensure the highest level of security of its customers’ data, decided to implement the advanced P2PE (Point-to-Point Encryption) standard to protect payment card data during cashless transactions. Implementing this task required cooperation with an experienced technology partner with the appropriate knowledge and resources to effectively implement such an advanced solution.

Challenge

Lidl faced the challenge of integrating the new P2PE standard in all its stores in the country, which involved replacing existing payment devices and introducing new, more advanced security procedures. To meet these requirements, Lidl needed a partner who could provide a comprehensive solution and implement it efficiently and without disrupting the stores’ daily operations.

Solution

The company turned to Exorigo-Upos, a trusted IT solutions provider specialising in payment technologies and data security, for help. Exorigo-Upos proposed using its proprietary Cloud EFT payment hub (EuroKarta EFT), which is compliant with the P2PE standard and enables full encryption of payment card data at the moment of reading it on the terminal or PIN Pad.

As part of the cooperation, Exorigo-Upos carried out a comprehensive implementation of the new standard in Lidl stores, including replacing existing payment devices with modern Ingenico Lane 3000 PIN Pads provided by eService. The entire process of encrypting and decrypting data took place in a protected environment built by Lidl’s IT department with the support of experts from Exorigo-Upos.

Summary

With the support of Exorigo-Upos, Lidl has successfully implemented the P2PE standard in all its stores, ensuring the highest level of protection for customers’ payment card data. All data transmitted during transactions is now wholly unreadable and useless to unauthorised recipients, significantly reducing the risk of fraud and abuse.

Lidl’s cooperation with Exorigo-Upos in implementing the P2PE standard is an example of an effective partnership in implementing advanced technological projects.
