Introduction

Empik is one of Poland’s most recognisable brands and a leader in omnichannel sales. It offers products in entertainment, cultural, and lifestyle categories through a network of over 370 brick-and-mortar stores, an Empik.com platform (including a marketplace), and a mobile application. As many as 10 million Poles buy through Empik every year.

One of the chain’s unique stores is Empik Marszałkowska, located in the pavilion of the former Cepelia, a historic building at the intersection of Marszałkowska Street and Aleje Jerozolimskie. It is a place with a unique character, combining tradition with a modern approach to trade. Implementing modern technological infrastructure was necessary to ensure the highest standard of customer service and the efficient functioning of the salon.

Challenge

The project included a comprehensive installation of a LAN, sound system, fibre optic cable and IT equipment – both cash register and office. This task presented several key challenges:

  • Adaptation of modern technologies to the historic space, where the scope of interference in the structure of the building was limited,
  • Providing a stable and efficient network infrastructure, enabling efficient operation of sales and administration systems,
  • Integration of a sound system, ensuring high-quality sound without disturbing the comfort of customers,
  • Installation and configuration of IT equipment, including cash registers, terminals and office workstations.

The project’s aim was to create a modern and reliable technological environment that supports the showroom’s daily activities while harmoniously fitting into the aesthetics of the historic interior.

Solution

Empik Marszałkowska is a new store whose launch required a comprehensive implementation of technological infrastructure. The key challenges were the close cooperation with the general contractor and the very short schedule of works. The LAN installation had to start in a single day, requiring precise organisation, perfect team coordination, and immediate equipment and resource availability.

Additional difficulties resulted from:

  • Simultaneous construction and finishing works that limited free access to space,
  • Historic character of the building, requiring special care when carrying out installations,
  • Integration with other Empik systems required closely matching the technology to the applicable network and IT standards.
  • The key objective was to carry out the installation quickly, collision-freely and in line with the showroom’s opening schedule, while ensuring the high quality of the implemented solutions.

Result

Thanks to efficient organisation and close cooperation with the general contractor, the installation was completed according to schedule, enabling the showroom to open on time.

As part of the implementation:

  • Over 800 meters of cable routes were installed,
  • Nearly 8000 meters of LAN cable were laid, providing a stable connection for IT equipment,
  • 200 meters of fibre optic cable have been installed, guaranteeing fast data transfer,
  • 800 meters of wiring for the sound system, adapted to the facility’s acoustics, were made.

In addition, 7 line checkouts and 5 self-service checkouts (SCO) were successfully launched, ensuring efficient customer service from the showroom’s first day of operation.

Thanks to precise planning and effective implementation, the new Empik Marszałkowska store has received a modern and reliable technological infrastructure that supports its daily functioning and users’ comfort.

Thanks to the efficient implementation, Empik has gained a modern and fully functional store ready to serve customers from the first day of operation. The seamless installation of IT and network systems allowed the sales team to start working smoothly and avoid delays in opening.

This project further proved Exorigo-Upos’s ability to implement complex installations under challenging conditions and time pressure. The team gained valuable experience and confirmed that efficient organisation and cooperation can guarantee success despite demanding schedules.
